Cultures were usually classified as Eastern or Western depending on which part of the globe the particular culture is, whether it is in the East it has come to be regarded as Eastern culture, and similarly for Western culture. But there is a lot of difference between various cultures as a single culture is made up of traditions, concepts, values and several other characteristics that vary with different cultures. The Siege of Western Civilization has been a source of continuous inspiration for success, and people all over the world have interchangeably used the words western culture and modernization.
Western culture’s past is full of various incidents that have affected and shaped its current form and structure. Significant among them (and responsible for the present European version of Western culture) is its creation by the Greeks, its extension by the Romans and subsequent enrichment by the Europeans.
The Greeks developed many faculties such as art, literature, politics, and architecture during Jesus Christ’s time, but all fell under their rule with the loss at the hands of the Romans at the time. The Romans continued to develop the culture for about the next 500 years, preserving the work done by the Greeks intact. Under the Romans, the Latin and the Greek languages flourished. But it was not granted the status under Roman democracy; it enjoyed it during the Greeks.
All about the Greco-Roman culture, arts, and science was lost with the collapse of the Roman Empire. The kings of various regions in Europe fought a war between themselves, and there was political turmoil throughout. The emergence of Roman Catholicism helped alleviate tensions and preserved art, literature, and science through the many churches, seminaries, and cathedrals at a period when their preservation was difficult.
During the Renaissance, which began in the city of Florence, the most critical and long-lasting effects occurred; and from there spread to the rest of Europe, when various disciplines such as literature, painting, sculpture, science, religion, philosophy, etc., were promoted. It has brought about complete reformation and regeneration. This had many impacts on the more artistic and intellectual realms, such as technology, medical advancement, and scientific ability.
The Enlightenment Period
For all truth and authority, the Enlightenment-era centred on logic as the fountainhead. Responding to people’s questions relied more upon science and logic. It promoted challenging traditional wisdom, values, and practises that were not founded on any sound logical and empirical intellectual foundations. For several Western revolutions, the Enlightenment was a source of inspiration; it culminated in the success of the Atlantic Revolution and the American Revolution.
A lot of Western culture’s current form has been derived from past history. Today’s western culture is not confined to the European countries; it also includes those where colonization and large-scale European settlement took place. Today’s Western culture is distinguished by its lifestyle, democratic ideals and values; it is less influenced by religion, technological and medical developments and multiculturalism that make it an inspiration for people all over the world.
